My Week At Artlink Central
I am sixteen years old and currently in my fifth year at Grangemouth High School. I first heard about Artlink Central when Kevin came along to one of our orchestra rehearsals to tell us a bit about the organisation. When I leave school I would like to become a music therapist so I spoke to Kevin and put my name forward for volunteering.
At the start of my work placement week, I worked with and amazing group of adults from 'Artreach'. Here I spent two full-on days helping the adults bring their final compositions together and help them prepare for their performance on the Wednesday. Each individual had created their own graphic score and taught the others in the group how they wanted their piece to be played. The group made me feel at ease, even though I've never done anything like this before. This was an amazing experience for me to be a part of and one of which I will treasure. I felt like I got to know each and every individual in the group and really hope that I get the chance to work with them on Artreach projects again in the near future.
I have loved being part of the Artlink Central team for the week and working within different areas of the business. I hope to come back to volunteer again soon as spending the week at Artlink Central has totally opened my eyes and made me realise this is definitely what I want to do when I leave school.
