CHARITY ART AUCTION RAISES OVER £18,000
Around 200 people came out in support of arts charity Artlink Central at Sunday night’s Art off the Rock charity art auction. With a lively auction of work by artists such as Kate Downie, Hilary Barker, Lesley Banks and illustrator Emily Gravett, and an anonymous postcard sale as well as book signings by the charity’s Patron, Julia Donaldson, over £18,000 was raised to support Artlink Central’s continuing services for those in our community who experience mental illness, disability and disadvantage.
Supported by Smith and Williamson and new sponsor Bell Ingram, the event was hosted at the University of Stirling’s Pathfoot Building. Other support came from United Auctions, Alison Green Books and Macmillan Children’s Books. The thirty-two auction pieces were donated by leading Scottish and UK artists as well as hundreds of postcard sized pieces from professional and non-professional artists from Scotland and beyond.
Director of Artlink Central,Kevin Harrison, said
“The University was the perfect venue and partner for this established and lively charitable arts event. We auctioned 31 lots of paintings, many donated by artists who work with Artlink Central in our communities, and a fantastic honeycomb candle by famed Dunblane silversmith Graham Stewart. We sold hundreds of original postcards, some by artists such as Axel Scheffler, June Carey and Jack Knox.
With the fantastic support of our Patron, Julia Donaldson and the supreme talents of Auctioneer David Leggat from United Auctions we had a truly memorable evening at the home of the esteemed University of Stirling Art Collection. Thanks to all who supported us, especially our sponsors Bell Ingram and Smith and Williamson.”
